When I look at you what I see is me.
This drawing was initially inspired by a Pink Floyd lyric.... "And I am you and what I see is me". The line reminded me of the Buddhist teachings on how we see other people through the lens of our own experiences, cultures, education etc. We see people in a unique way, and unlike anyone else sees that person. Whatever we look at, it is ike a mirror, and reflects us. In this way, what we see is an illusion, as it is coloured by our own unique interpretations.
The image of the tomb is the place of universal consciousness, where we are all one.
I read the other day that if you ask 5 people to describe who you are, they will offer 5 different answers and none of these will align with your own self image. I think the way we perceive people is filtered through our past experiences, our culture, education and gossip. In other words, our perception of that person is just a reflection of us. In the same way, our perception of ourselves is a reflection of how we have been treated by others. All these judgements are just based on thoughts which are fragments of past information and never the whole picture. Each of us have a library of different thoughts, evolved from our limited life experiences and we often believe them to be absolute ’truth’. Perhaps only when we accept that we are not our thoughts, or other peoples thoughts, do we see things as they are.
