What I do now and what I need to let go.
In this drawing, I was thinking about how all my thoughts and worries centre around an imagined future. My world becomes an illusion of what might happen, filling my thoughts and stopping me seeing what really is.
If I can let go of my ego (the crown and mask in the drawing) and time (symbolised by the phases of the moon), then my thoughts fade and I become fully aware of the present moment. I become still. I have represented this stillness with the carvings on the side of a tomb. Some years ago I was in a cathedral, sitting quietly looking at these carvings when I realised my mind was still, absent of thoughts and worries. I felt connected with everything around me, and fully aware of just the present moment.
As the drawing developed, I also thought of when an owl hovered above me and in that magical moment, time stood still and there were no thoughts. In this stillness, there is an awareness of what I can do now, and what I need to let go.
