All my ancestors are alive in us.
by Edinburgh artist Mike Heseltine.
All my ancestors are alive in us.
Inspired by the teachings of Thích Nhất Hạnh who was a Vietnamese Thiền Buddhist monk, peace activist, prolific author, poet and teacher. He wrote “If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment. Each is present in your body. You are the continuation of each of these people.”
I am also interested in Generational Trauma. Patterns of behaviour inherited and repeating themselves which I suppose is a form of Karma. Awareness and acceptance is perhaps the best way to address these patterns. Acceptance, not implying surrender, but seeing a situation deeply and honestly so that I can effect the best possible change. In my case, acceptance also means that I cannot always effect change, so I have to accept what is as if I had chosen it.
