Witnessing my thoughts picture.

Witnessing my thoughts

The Rose window in Durham Cathedral has patterns which resemble figures. These figures rotate endlessly around the centre, where there is stillness. This image reminded me of the Buddhist belief of Samsara which is the constant cycle of life, death, and rebirth, without beginning or end. To escape this cycle requires 'enlightenment'. One step on this path is witnessing our thoughts and having an understanding of the illusion of self.

While sitting in Durham Cathedral, I watched visitors pass by the tombs and on into the light of the Rose window. In this sacred place of stillness, I became the witnesser of my thoughts and an awareness which felt universal.
