The burden of self by Mike Heseltine

The burden of self.

The burden of self.

The creation of self image.

My story, the version I like people to see, is an illusion. It is created by my ego. In the painting I am holding a tree which contains my thoughts. The reference is to the Tree of Knowledge ( more here ). The tree reflects two images I have created. Both are me, one of the future and one of the past. They wear crowns because in my illusions, I am king.

I maintain this burden of creating and maintaining a 'self', while knowing I am not the choreographer of my life.

The tree containing the constant chatter of my thoughts prevents me seeing the stillness and divine above.
